Harken LokHead Winch Kit

The Harken LokHead Winch Kit is a hand-operated winch designed for controlled lifting and lowering of loads and casualties in professional rescue scenarios. The LokHead 500 KIT is certified to EN 13157:2009 (manual lifting equipment), EN 1496:2017 Class A (rescue lifting device) and EN 341:2011 Class A Type 2 (descender), making it suitable for industrial rope access, confined space entry and technical rescue. Used with appropriate anchor points and certified kernmantle ropes, the kit allows controlled movement of loads up to 500 kg and persons up to 240 kg, operated by competent personnel.

Certified lifting and rescue system
The LokHead 500 KIT complies with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and EN 13157:2009 for loads, as well as EN 1496:2017 Class A for rescue lifting and EN 341:2011 Class A Type 2 for controlled descent of persons. It can therefore be integrated into rescue and evacuation systems requiring both hoisting and lowering under control.

High working loads for loads and persons
The maximum working load is 500 kg for lifting and lowering loads and 240 kg for lifting and lowering persons in rescue operations. The minimum working load for lowering persons is 50 kg. When combined with suitable anchor devices, connectors (minimum 22 kN) and EN 1891 Type A static ropes, the system offers safe and repeatable load transfer.

Two-speed mechanical advantage
The LokHead 500 Winch provides a power ratio of 13.50:1 in first speed and 39.90:1 in second speed, with gear ratios of 2.13:1 and 6.28:1. The handle rotation direction automatically selects the speed (faster with less power in first, slower with more power in second), enabling the operator to move substantial loads with manageable physical effort.

Compatible with certified kernmantle ropes
For lifting and lowering persons, the LokHead is certified with 11 mm Teufelberger Patron EN 1891 Type A kernmantle rope. For loads, 10–12.7 mm fibre ropes may be used, compliant with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and with a safety factor of at least 7. The drum and sheave configuration requires 2 to 4 wraps without crossing, limiting slip and providing controlled friction.

Advanced mounting and anchorage options
The LokHead 500 KIT can be mounted on suitable base plates, tripods (EN 795 Type B, 240 kg WLL) and TelluMount plates. Plate holes have been tested up to 24 kN in horizontal and vertical directions and up to 36 kN per pair of holes. This allows safe integration with static anchor points, tripods and fixed structures using M12 bolts or approved anchors.
